Actor, Director, Writer, (and Supermodel) Paulina Porizkova comments on using an antidepressant:

“I started taking Lexapro after my anxiety attacks came back and, for all intents and purposes, practically crippled me.

“I’ve always had anxiety attacks, or panic attacks as some know them, but after years of learning how to deal with them, I thought I had them under control.

“I spent two years with my lover Lexapro; the two most mellow years of my life. My immediate frustrations were comforted, my resentments muffled, my anxiety calmed…But I was also insulated against or from fun things like my creativity and sexuality.”

“My worst panic attacks were happening in the car – always in the morning on the way to work at one particular place.

“Now, I look forward to driving again. I am not afraid anymore of having an attack – which is extraordinary!”

Kathleen – about her benefit from the Panic Away course.

“Charles’ method says that anxiety disorder is simply a normal human emotion triggered inappropriately. This is a very accurate description… Many of you have tried these anxiety therapies, CBT, psychotherapy etc and failed miserably. This method worked for me.”

Judith Orloff“Creative people are extremely sensitive. Neurologically, they are very finely tuned and open to all kinds of energies from the outside, so it’s important they protect themselves and not be overwhelmed…

“People need immediate relief for anxiety; they don’t want to wait.”

Linden Center research shows that anxiety conditions are not caused by chemical imbalance or distorted thoughts, but rather “creative intellect.” From Anxiety Disorders Myth Dispelled.

Edie Falco says she battled anxiety before achieving stardom in “The Sopranos” … “There were some horrible years… And real heavy-duty darkness can set in. I had a little bit of a nervous breakdown, I suppose. Somebody got me a job at a hardware store and I started having terrible anxiety attacks,” she recalls.

Hugh Grant said, “I get these panic attacks. So I have always tried to do everything I possibly can – herbal remedies, chemical remedies. Running was the only thing that really helped. But at the same time, I found it lowered my sense of humour. I lost my edge a bit. So in the end, I stopped running.” [imdb.com]

Alison Pill : “The only way to deal with nerves is by focusing on whatever you have to do and forgetting about the number of people watching and everything that depends on you. Sometimes, I get so incredibly nervous before a take that I forget lines or I mess them up.”  [From an old website of hers.]

In a July 2010 interview for Venice Magazine, she was asked, Do you get stage fright before a show? – Pill replied, “No. Usually, I just can’t wait. I get annoyed with the audience when they make me wait.” [laughs]

Anxiety can occur without any sort of outside trigger, and it is not the same as ordinary fear, which we may naturally feel in response to an external threat.

People experience anxiety in various ways, including phobias, social anxiety, panic and stage fright / fear of public speaking.

Actor Amanda Peet on stage fright:  “I came in [to act in a play] six days before we opened for previews! I imagine it is what people feel like when they jump off a plane….

“I called my agent and said I need to do another play but really quickly.

“I am feeling that I am just getting over my stage fright, so I want to go back really quickly. I don’t want to relearn how not to be self-conscious.”

Musician Moby said: “I’ve had panic attacks since I was 19… Now I’m fine. Every now and then, I’ll have too much caffeine, be stressed out about work and be in a relationship that’s not going well, and it will happen again.

“I just tell myself, listen, I’ve dealt with this a thousand times before, it always ends. There’s a part of you that always feels like this is never going to end. But then it does.”

“To venture causes anxiety, but not to venture is to lose one’s self.”
Soren Kierkegaard  [1813-1855]

Some anxiety is useful

Neuropsychiatrist Richard Restak, M.D. says:

“We’re all anxious and it’s a good thing that we are. At its optimum level, anxiety can help you formulate possibilities and imagine yourself in the future.

“When you ask yourself, Can I perform at the best level?, you’re having an anxious thought, but it’s leading you to strive toward something.”

He is author of Poe’s Heart and the Mountain Climber: Exploring the Effect of Anxiety on Our Brains and Our Culture.

But when you need help for stress and anxiety, this site – Anxiety Relief Solutions – provides a variety of carefully selected natural, drug-free anxiety relief products and anxiety relief programs.

Many of these effective cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness approaches, plus natural supplements, can also help us deal with stress reactions and depression.

This site, and these self-help approaches, are not a substitute for medical treatment. If you feel you need medication or counseling, take care of yourself and get help.

Your life can be far better without anxiety and stress. You will more fully express your creative talents if you aren’t overly stressed and anxious.

I have experienced anxiety to some degree most of my life, but have found significant relief through using some of the approaches in these science-based programs I selected to include on the site, such as cognitive therapy, mindfulness meditation and biofeedback.

For quick relief I sometimes use the homeopathic preparation Pure Calm.

Of course, what counts is how a product or program works for you.

Read brief overviews by following the links at the left.

These descriptions include links to articles by some of the program authors – and links to the main publisher site for each program or product, to get more information and to order.

Anxiety is both a physical and psychological state.

There are cognitive, somatic (body), emotional, and behavioral aspects. Basically, it is extreme versions of feelings like uneasiness, apprehension, dread or worry, often brought on by not dealing well enough with stress.

“With things like depression or anxiety oftentimes people have certain styles of thinking, like catastrophizing, which is this idea that we are always expecting disasters, something terrible is going to happen… We really blow it up and magnify it and this tends to amplify our anxiety. But people can become more aware of their habitual style of thinking… step outside of it. It’s no longer controlling them.” Elisha Goldstein, PhD, about his Mindful Solutions CD program.

Deanne Repich, founder of the National Institute of Anxiety and Stress, says there are a number of things that can influence anxiety: Biological Factors, Stress Overload, Lifestyle Factors, Childhood Environment, Thought Patterns, and Genetic Factors.

That is a lot of stuff to consider in getting relief for anxiety, but there is much you can do for yourself using the guidance of the carefully researched anxiety products on this site.

Fear is usually related to escape and avoidance, and anxiety can have the same kind of body reactions, but many people experience anxiety as something uncontrollable or unavoidable.

Anxiety can be a normal part of stress, and actually help us deal with difficult situations. But when it is excessive, and interferes with living our life fully, creatively and without dread, it may be an anxiety disorder.

According to The National Institute of Mental Health, “Anxiety Disorders affect about 40 million American adults age 18 years and older (about 18%) in a given year, causing them to be filled with fearfulness and uncertainty.

“Unlike the relatively mild, brief anxiety caused by a stressful event (such as speaking in public or a first date), anxiety disorders last at least 6 months and can get worse if they are not treated.”

“Anxiety disorders include panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social phobia (or social anxiety disorder), specific phobias, and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).

“Each anxiety disorder has different symptoms, but all the symptoms cluster around excessive, irrational fear and dread.”

Here is one former anxiety sufferer, who got help using The Linden Method :

Another testimonial: “Panic attacks and anxiety disorder ruled my life. I felt like I was going to die. Your program empowered me to do something about it.”
